The working group…

So, I’m back in Africa - Kigali. It’s all steam ahead for issue 5 of Ni Nyampinga magazine I arrived in last night - it almost felt that I hadn’t been away. Today, I have spent all day running workshops and brainstorming sessions. And, what a day, so much stuff done. So much stuff covered. Very exciting. Issue 5 will ROCK! The new theme is …….. Now that would be telling…

So, after the slightly disappointing half marathon in Berlin for me. RDC partied hard in Berlin that evening - shots - on the menu!

The half marathon

Well, what can i say - that was possibly the hardest run I have ever done. Coming off the back of a 20.5 hour flight from Kigali one nights sleep and WHAM! I made it over the line but only just. By the end everything was spinning and nothing made any sense for at least 30 minutes afterwards. A lesson for the future I think.

The journey continued without incident. My bag even arrived in Berlin intact. I am surprised because the checking in process in Kigali was some what crazy. They asked me “is it ok to pick your bag up in Frankfurt?”
“no” I said
“I’m going to Berlin”
The whole checking in process started again for the third time!

So, I now in Berlin, it’s Sunday morning - sunny but cold - and I now need to prepare for the race ahead. I slept pretty well, so onwards and upwards!

First leg of the trip to Berlin done! I am now sat in the business lounge at the international airport of Addis Ababa. A slightly tatty affair, but glad to be transit to the next destination - Frankfurt, a 7 hour+ flight. I slept all of the first flight and hope to sleep some of the next.

We received a perfect thank you gift today from Jess and the team at Girl Hub. It could not have been better. Great Choice!!!
To top things off we got a card as well…

I’ve now got two more days left in Kigali, before I fly straight to Berlin for the half marathon, then home to see my family - who I’ve missed so much during my time out here. I’ve seen things I thought I would never see and met people, I thought I would never meet. This country has been through a lot and is in recovery, the strength and spirit of it’s people is a lesson to us all I think. I hope to return some day + family!!!

We spent the morning interviewing some local dancing girls at this art space called Ivuka. The space helps young kids in the local area. Good vibes all round.
